Chincoteague Girls Get Win Over Lady Warriors

On Thursday, Feb. 3, the Chincoteague Ponies traveled to Nandua to compete in the final district matchup between these two teams. 

The Warriors took the lead in the first quarter with a score of 9-8. This close battle continued through the half with strong defensive play from both teams. At half the two teams headed to the locker room with a 14-14 tie. In the third quarter, Chincoteague was able to hold Nandua to only 7 points on offense while the Ponies began to pull away with the lead. 

As the fourth quarter began, the score was 25-21. Chincoteague’s Emma Jackson took over the offense for the Ponies in the final quarter recording 10 points. The Warriors defense was unable to make a stop as Chincoteague continued to extend its lead. Chincoteague improved its district record with a final score of 45-28. 

The Ponies were led by senior Emma Jackson with 17 points. Nandua’s leading scorer on the night was Regan Hintz with 12 points. 

Chincoteague will compete against Arcadia in a double-header on Thursday and Friday at home. Meanwhile, the Lady Warriors will travel to Stephen Decatur on Friday for an out-of-conference game.
