Mrs. Eleanor Snell Lutzke, 81, wife of the late Dwaine Louis Lutzke and a resident of Harborton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 21, 1940, in Jamaica, N.Y., she was the only child of the late Lester Snell and the late Victoria Zieleski Snell.

Eleanor worked as a switchboard operator for the former Ma Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company, now known as AT&T, where she later retired after many years. She looked forward to days spent “junking” and hunting for antiques and other treasures, loved plants and flowers, and had a lifelong soft spot for cats. Her loving and generous nature was shown to all, both human and four-legged, having always opened her home and heart to people and animals alike.

She is survived by her cousins, Shannon Lewis and her husband, Wayne, as well as Shannon’s children, Cutter and Luke Sharp, and Victoria Payne and her daughter, Rosie. Eleanor adored children and was an adopted grandmother to Trey Crockett, who affectionately called her “Wawa” and dear friend to his mother, Karen Crockett. Over the last few years, she was known as “Ya-ya” to Noah Ferebee and Hope Cornejo, with whom she lived, along with their mother, Christina Sanderlin, whose friendship she cherished.

A memorial service will be held at the Onancock Baptist Church Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, at 6 p.m., with Pastor Andy Cobb officiating.
