Mr. David Charles Fried, 72, smiled as he was eternally reunited with his late wife, Carolyn Ruth Lewis Fried, on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022. The only child of Seymour and Miriam Winn Fried, Dave was born in Paterson, N.J., on June 2, 1949.

Dave grew up among a family of artists and free spirits. Having both parents work passionately to perfect their latest piece and an aunt who performed on Broadway, he was destined to have the larger-than-life personality so many knew and loved. Following high school, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1972. He was very proud to have had the honor to serve his country in the Navy and continued his commitment through his career as a detective with the Virginia Beach Police Department. Upon retirement in the mid ’90s, Dave returned to New Jersey where he met the love of his life, Carolyn. Soon after they were married, Dave and Carolyn relocated to the Eastern Shore of Virginia and began building their life together. He was active in the community as a member of Parksley Baptist Church, the American Legion Post #100, Central Shore Lions Club, and Crotch Cannibal Motorcycle Club and was a self-acclaimed freelance photographer, having submitted a few pictures to EZ Rider Magazine that were later published. Dave had an odd obsession with Chuckie Cheese, and his favorite pastime was giving those he loved a hard time, often taking great pleasure in picking and joking just to ruffle a few feathers. Those fortunate enough to have been on the receiving end of Dave’s playful bullying also had the great pleasure to call him a friend.

He is survived by his daughter, Robin Huttner, of Parksley; grandchildren, Maxwell (Brenda) and Jacen Horne, Rylee and Taylor Huttner, and Krystal Maxwell Horne; great-granddaughter, Evangeline Maxwell Horne; and cousins, Dan Pollock, of New York, and Robin Radin (Larry), of California.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, at 5:30 p.m., with the Rev. Mark Layne officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment, with military honors, will be held at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, in Suffolk, Va., at a later date.
