Northampton and Accomack Under Winter Storm Warning Until 10 a.m. Saturday

Staff Report —

The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va., has upgraded the winter storm watch in both counties to a winter storm warning, with 3 to 6 inches of snow and a light glaze of ice possible in Northampton (full warning here) and 1 to 3 inches expected in Accomack (full warning here).

Threats: 4 to 6 inches of snow for far southeast Virginia (including southside Hampton Roads), northeast North Carolina east of the Chowan River, 2 to 4 inches of snow from interior northeast North Carolina through the Virginia Eastern Shore, and 1 to 2 inches of snow from south-central Virginia to portions of southeast Maryland.

Timing: Late this afternoon through tonight into early Saturday morning.

Location: The greatest impacts are expected in Hampton Roads, northeast North Carolina, and the Virginia Eastern Shore.
