NWS Issues Third Winter Storm Briefing: 6″-8″ of Snow Forecast for Shore

Staff Report —

The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va., has issued a briefing regarding two potential winter weather events: one tomorrow (Jan. 20) afternoon-evening and another (potentially more significant) event Friday-Saturday morning.

Threats: Around 1″ of snow is forecast for tomorrow afternoon-evening, which could impact the evening commute as temperatures drop below freezing. Significant snow accumulations are possible Friday-Saturday morning, with the potential for some light icing over northeast North Carolina.

Timing: Thursday afternoon-evening for the first event. Friday-Saturday morning for the second event.

Location: Central and southeast Virginia is the focus for the first event; the second event is mainly focused on eastern, southern, and southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina. Southern Virginia and northeast North Carolina have the potential for icing during the second event.
