Mrs. Cleo Hodges Linvill, 82, of Hallwood, wife of George Barnes Linvill, passed away Dec. 21, 2021, in Salisbury, Md.
Born Oct. 19, 1939, in Peterstown, W.V., she was the daughter of the late James E. Hodges Sr. and the late Ruth Elizabeth Morgan. Cleo owned and operated Thornton Fashion Fabrics and Furniture and later Thornton Travel Agency for many years. She was a dedicated member and past Worthy Grand Matron of the Temperanceville #88 Eastern Star, a member of Accomack Chapter #62, and a past Grand Matron for the State of Virginia. She enjoyed working with her hands, as shown by her sewing, cross-stitch, needlework, and embroidery. She also loved cooking and baking, especially her fresh apple cakes. Christmas was a special time for Cleo, as she decorated her house with over 15 Christmas trees. She truly enjoyed the holidays and spending time with her beloved family.
Other than her husband, Cleo is survived by two daughters, Marie Thornton Rodgers (Sonny), of Chincoteague, and Debbie Thornton Baylis (Kevin), of Onley; five grandchildren, Christina Eulo Gardner (Neil), Nathan Eulo, Jason Thomas Hickman, Zachary William Baylis, and Garrett Morgan Baylis; a great-grandchild, Gavin Neil Gardner; her siblings, Ruth Smith-Fraser, Lieu Lewis, Vada Morgan Hayes, Patti West, and Joseph Milton Hodges; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Carolyn Hodges, Fran Wesley Smith, and James E. Hodges Jr.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, at 2 p.m., from the Downings United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hodae Kim officiating.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
