Mrs. Debbie Lynn Crowson was born Dec. 23, 1947, in Nassawadox, and entered into eternal rest Nov. 23, 2021; peacefully slipping away just 10 days after her beloved mother. Debbie was the daughter of Pastor Blanche Alverta Dix and Delmas Beckett, and she was the bonus daughter of Deacon Wilbert Dix.
Although her health was challenged for the last several years, she maintained her personality and would greet you with a smile and an “I love you.”
Debbie received her education in the public schools of Accomack County and graduated from Mary N. Smith. She also attended Norfolk State College. She was employed as an educational assistant in Accomack County before joining Roses Department Store as inventory manager. She joined them at the opening of their first Eastern Shore store and continued to work for over 30 years until her health prevented her from continuing.
She married the love of her life, William Richard Crowson, and was saddened by his early death.
Debbie accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Mt. Zion Holy Church and served faithfully under Bishop Helen O. Gillis and her mother and pastor, Elder Blanche Dix. Debbie was instrumental in the implementation of the Church Anniversary and Pastoral Anniversary. Whenever Pastor Dix had to minister and or participate in a service, Debbie was there. Even in the midst of her health challenges, she continued to praise and worship God. Through it all, she trusted God and held on to His unchanging hand.
Debbie was a lady of many gifts, talents, and interests. Her style was vivid, elegant, and lavish. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and watching and participating in drag races. She loved race cars and was even known to issue a challenge to a race. Debbie was a devoted daughter, cousin, and friend and will be missed.
Debbie leaves cherished memories with her father, Delmas Beckett (Cleo), of St. Albans, N.Y.; one aunt, Margaret Poole, of Salisbury, Md.; two brothers, George Ames (Linda), of Onancock, and Michael Beckett (Mary), of Westbury, N.Y.; one sister, Carole Beckett-Washington (Dwight), of Willow Grove, Pa.; devoted cousins, Wayne (Alphine), Kelvin (Carolyn), and Chester Pettit III (Eileen), all of Parksley, Rodney Pettit (Rhonda), of Leesburg, Ga., Colette Pettit Douglas, of Onancock, Sharone Grant (Frederick), of Snow Hill, Md., Thalia White (Lee), of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Robin Pettit, of Kissimmee, Fla.; god sister, Marilyn Williams, of Fairview; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
