Mrs. Peggy Anne Wessells, 84, passed away Nov. 29, 2021, at her home in Rue.

She was the daughter of the late Warner Ames Johnson and the late Janie Beatrice (Thomas) Johnson and was born April 16, 1937, in Southside Chesconessex. She was married to Reginald Thomas Wessells Sr., who predeceased her  on June 30, 2002, after 47 years of marriage.

Peggy graduated from Onancock High School. She entered her career shortly after her marriage at the R&G Shirt Factory, where she made many lifelong friends and worked her way up to floor supervisor. She retired in 1999 to care for her sick husband. She was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church in Leemont, where she was a Sunday school teacher.

Later in life, Peggy loved to travel and stayed, at least one night, in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, seven of the 10 Canadian Provinces, Bermuda, and Mexico.

She was a wonderful mother to two children and is survived by both, Reginald Thomas Wessells Jr., of Parksley, and Regina Anne (Wessells) Howard, of Fort Payne, Ala.
She was the second eldest of eight siblings. She is survived by two sisters, Linda Jean Jackson and Anita Lynn Smith. She was predeceased by Shirley Ruth Adkins, Dorothy Virginia Rowley, Janie Marie Fitchett, Barry Thomas Johnson, and Betty Darlene Saunders.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Crowell Alexander “Alex” Pate IV, Regina Anne Headrick, Carrie Elizabeth Pate, and Andrew Thomas Pate; and four great-grandchildren, Isabella Hope Pate, Kinsley Nicole Pate, Asher Thomas Pate, and Henry Wyatt Headrick.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, at 2 p.m., from the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley with the Rev. John Burr officiating. Interment followed in the Parksley Cemetery in Parksley.

Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
