Mr. David Brian Matthews, 67, resident of Guilford, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, at his home. Born Sept. 14, 1954, in Nassawadox, and raised in Bloxom, he was the son of the late Charles Joseph Matthews and the late Evelyn Taylor Matthews.

David’s passionate work ethic began at a young age and continued throughout his life. As a master mechanic, he excelled in his trade, having started his career with Stevenson’s Equipment. He later accepted a position with Tyson Foods, retiring as maintenance supervisor after more than 36 years. A collector of all things, David never had just one of any item. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially looked forward to time spent with family.

He is survived by his daughter, Christina Lynn Townsend, and her husband, Yardley, of Palm Bay, Fla.; sister, Betty Jo Colonna, and her husband, Norris, of Federalsburg, Va.; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Porter, of Horntown; grandchildren, Amber Tankard, Dillion Matthews, Chelsey Townsend, and Donteá Townsend; nephews, Keith Colonna and his wife, Deena, Charles Matthews and his wife, Susan, and Kelly Roache. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his brother, Charles Wayne Matthews.

Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, at 1 p.m., with his nephew, Charles Matthews, officiating. Interment was in the Liberty Cemetery.
