Mr. William Lee “Bill” Allen Sr. was a caring, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, community activist, and philanthropist.
Bill passed away Oct. 27, 2021, at the age of 85, surrounded by his family. Despite his pain, Bill came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
As a child, Bill proclaimed that his goal was to become an activist for all children when he grew up. This dream was fulfilled when he became the director of Accomack County Parks and Recreation for over 30 years and over 20 years at Wallops Flight Facility.
Bill met the love of his life, the late Mary Ellen Ayres, while in middle school. It was love at first sight and they were married for 65 years. Together they had four children, William “Billy” Jr., Robert “Bobby” Sr., Jennifer, and Michael “Mike.”
Bill will be honored with a Celebration of Life service Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at 11 a.m., at the Sawmill Park Pavilion, 24387 Joynes Neck Road, Accomac.
