Mr. Baxter Wescoat, 25, passed on Oct. 15, 2021.

Baxter was born Sept. 25, 1996, to Shannon and John Wescoat, of Eastville. He belonged to Hungars Episcopal Church and went to school at Broadwater Academy and Northampton High School. While growing up, Baxter was an avid participant in numerous sports including baseball, football, soccer, and wrestling. Reading was a passion for him from pre-K on, and his favorites included fantasy writers such as J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Neil Gaiman.

After high school, Baxter moved west to Bozeman, Mont., where he worked in guest services at Big Sky Resort. There he enjoyed exploring the great outdoors and delighted in finding secret warming huts hidden on the slopes. Baxter also lived in Seattle, Wash., for a year and took classes at North Seattle College while working for a lake cruise company. He was always a favorite with his coworkers and the guests with his easy-going nature and ready smile. After a year on the Eastern Shore, Baxter had returned to his friends and job in Big Sky this past spring.

Left to cherish Baxter’s memory are his parents; brothers, Casey and Trip; aunts and uncles, Chappell and Tersh Barber, and Stacy and Eric Eslich; grandfather, Jack Wescoat; grandparents, Sherry and Ron Wrucke; and cousins, Connor and Zach Eslich, and Costin and Virginia Barber.

Friends from coast to coast will all miss Baxter’s generous spirit, quick wit, appreciation for science fiction (famous and obscure), local artwork (the weirder the better), and esoteric philosophical treatises. And of course, we will all miss Baxter’s sweet and loving nature.
A Celebration of Baxter’s Life will be held at Hungars Episcopal Church Sunday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow at Cherry Grove Farm.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Northampton High School noting “Baxter Wescoat Football Memorial” P.O. Box 38, Eastville, VA 23347.
