Mr. Charles Willard Nottingham passed away Sept. 28, 2021, at Liza’s Residential Care Home, with his family by his side.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Huckstep Cross; three stepsisters, Robin Cross Spruill, of Chesapeake, Kim Davis, of Lexington, N.C., and Vicki Dray, of Virginia Beach; numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and four first cousins, Wayne and Stanley Nottingham, of North Carolina, and Ray and Jay Hopper, of Virginia, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard N. Nottingham; grandparents, Charles T. and Ruth Watts Huckstep and Southey T. and Margaret Nottingham; a stepsister, Michele Pickens; and a nephew.

Charlie, a native of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, graduated from Kempsville High School, Chowan College, and Atlantic Christian College. He retired after 31 years with Nash Finch/MDV. Charlie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk, where he enjoyed singing in the choir and cherished his friends and Sunday School class members.

His family would like to thank Wanda Washington, his caregiver with Visiting Angels, for her loving devotion during his illness. Rudy and Lala from the care home were especially a comfort to Charlie and his family. Kindred Hospice of Virginia Beach provided comfort and excellent care to Charlie and his family during his last days.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m., from the graveside of the Parksley Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Boyce officiating. Memorial donations may be made to The Coalition Against Domestic Violence, P.O. Box 3, Onancock, VA 23417, or flowers will be accepted.

Funeral arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
