Staff Report —
Southbound Route 13 will be closed for the majority of the day due to an early-morning crash. VDOT is currently setting up lane closures and detours.
At approximately 6 a.m. this morning, the Virginia State Police were called to investigate a single commercial vehicle motor crash on Route 13, south of Tyson’s in the area of Chesser Road, Accomack County.
The driver of a 2020 Mack truck, 49-year-old Chad D. Madden, failed to navigate a turn, ran off the roadway, and caused the vehicle to overturn.
The vehicle is fully loaded with liquid asphalt which is currently leaking due to the crash. The area is now considered to be a hazmat location, and hazmat teams are enroute to the scene.
