Mrs. Katey Higgins Wilson departed this earthly life on Aug. 13, 2021. Her life was cut short by an aggressive form of cancer. She fought a hard battle, only like Katey could do.

Despite much strife early in the formative years of her life, Katey did not let that define her. Never using it as an excuse or crutch. In fact she used that strife to form a strong character in herself. Her attitude towards life should be an example to us all. Katey had a full and adventurous life. Born in Norfolk, her dad, being in the Navy was stationed overseas, where she spent her early years in Japan and the Philippines, returning to Norfolk where she finished elementary school. She would then move to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, where she made lifelong friends. She was one of the sweetest people you could ever meet, her husband overwhelmed by this sweetness called her his “Sweet Katey Lou.” Katey loved and cherished her family and friends, especially her babies Lou and Mad (Lukas and Madison). In addition to her children and grandchildren, she took on the role as a stepmother and stepgrandmother to four other children and loved them as her own. She also includes her pal Pee Wee as family, who she adopted from the SPCA. If you saw Katey you saw Pee Wee, two of the cutest things you’ll ever see in one place.

As a family, there was always an adventure. One of her favorite places to go was on the beach. She has been on the beaches of the Atlantic coast from Rhode Island to Florida, Pacific coast California and Oregon and tropical islands of the West Indies. She had a heart of gold and loved doing for others. From planning a wedding for her best friend, making care packages for the homeless, or passing out kindness cards just to make a stranger smile. Katey not only obeyed but is a perfect example of the Lord Jesus’ last commandment to “love one another, just as I have loved you.” She was proud to call herself a homemaker. She could make any home feel warm and cozy. Katey was a highly skilled crafter. Her work was exceptional to say the least. She thoroughly enjoyed making things for family and friends. Her last wish was to have everyone come together in love and peace to celebrate her life on earth and her new life in heaven.

Katey leaves behind her husband, Christopher Wilson; son, Lukas Higgins, and wife, Heather; daughter, Madison Petty; her grandchildren, Jordan, Isabella, and Kashton Higgins, and Owen Kemper; her father, Edward Higgins, and wife, Janet; her constant companion and beloved Pee Wee; and her many extended family member’s on her husband’s side as well as her life-long friend, Shanda Brady. Her mother, Eileen, preceded her in death.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held for Katey Saturday, Aug. 21, at 11 a.m., at St. Charles Borrormeo Catholic Church, 550 Randolph Ave., Cape Charles. This will be followed by a celebration of her life at 1 p.m., at Steve and Jennifer Fitchett’s home, 10004 Rogers Drive, Nassawadox. Katey’s wish was for all to have fun, smile, make peace, love one another, and come as you are.
