Mrs. Evelyn Henderson Nock, 83, wife of the late Samuel Ames Nock and a resident of Accomac, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 6, 1937, in Richmond, she was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy Henderson.

Evelyn was raised in Richmond, and as fate would have it, she and Sam first met as teenagers while attending separate high schools in the area. Following high school, she attended Mary Washington College and then transferred to MCV School of Pharmacy (now VCU Medical Center). Soon after graduation, she and Sam were married, marking the beginning of their 51 years as husband and wife, as well as Evelyn’s 40-year career as a pharmacist. In 1973, Evelyn and Sam returned to his roots on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, residing first in the town of Onancock and then for 32 years at “Warwick” in Quinby. Evelyn quickly became the beloved pharmacist at Wise’s Drug Store, Peoples Drug, and lastly CVS. She was a long standing member of Market Street United Methodist Church. As a certified master gardener, Evelyn was involved in various garden clubs over the years. She was a member and past president of the Ye Accawmacke Garden Club and a member of The Garden Club of the Eastern Shore. As a daffodil enthusiast, she volunteered as an accredited judge for the American Daffodil Society and won numerous blue ribbons and silver cups for her own flowers.

Survivors include her three sons and their spouses, William Floyd “Buddy” Nock and Eva Mittelmaier, of Pungoteague, Anthony Watson “Tony” Nock and Neilly, of Accomac, and Dr. Allen Brittingham “George” Nock and Tracy, of Blue Springs, Miss.; five grandchildren, Sam Ames Nock, Benson Floyd Nock, William Tillery Nock, Jeffery Ames Nock, and Katie Elizabeth Nock; sister, Betty Martin, of Richmond; sister-in-law, Rosemary Henderson, of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Christian Ames “Chris” Nock; brother, William Christian Henderson; brothers-in-law, Tom Martin and L. Floyd Nock III, and his wife, Anne Bryant Nock; and sister-in-law, Ellen Brittingham Nelson, and her husband, Col. William Nelson.
A private graveside service will be held at the Edgehill Cemetery in Accomac, with the Rev. G. Wayne Parsley officiating.
