Dear Editor:
I recently read one of the Eastern Shore Post articles where you printed a story about the grave of Accawmacke Indians who were once soldiers in the army (“Restoring a Historic Cemetery Is a Mission of Recognition,” June 4).
You called these people African American when they are not that. They are Accawmacke Indians.
We would appreciate it if they were addressed correctly. The term African American didn’t come about until the 1990s.
We are the indigenous Americans.
