Mrs. Jennie Lee Thornes, 91, beloved wife of the late Carroll Lawrence Thornes and a recent resident of Commonwealth Senior Living in Onancock, formerly of Parksley, passed away at her home on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021.

Born Oct. 7, 1929, in Greenbush, she was a daughter of the late Alfred Thomas “Allie” Justis and the late Jennie Leigh Milliner Justis. Jennie Lee graduated from Accomac High School and retired as a teletype operator from NASA. She was a longtime, active, loyal, and dedicated member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church, and was a past-president of their United Methodist Women. Jennie Lee was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was Past Worthy Matron of Onancock O.E.S. #82. She took great pride in raising their four children, enjoyed boating, making bread pudding to share with others, and was an excellent homemaker.

She is survived by her children, Wanda T. Smith and her husband, Bryan, of Melfa, Dana T. Bundick and her husband, C.L., of Parksley, Terry L. Thornes and his wife, Carmie, of Silver Spring, Md., and Todd L. Thornes and his wife, Lynn, of Harborton; her grandchildren, Philip Smith (Lori), Curt Smith (Sara), Russell Williams (Karrie), Ryan T. Bundick (Alex), Maureen Morgan (Shane), Andrew Thornes (Erin), and Jessica Mosley (Zack); her great-grandchildren, Levin, Leah and Miranda Smith, Whitt and Beck Smith, Thayne Williams (Kelsey), Colin Williams, Emma Bundick, and Campbell Morgan, Colin and Eileen Thornes, and Aubrey Mosley; her sister, Lillian Justis Bratton, of Newark, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her loving husband and parents, Jennie Lee was predeceased by her siblings, Dorothy Justis “Dot” Taylor, Alfred Thomas “Al” Justis Jr., Edward Bennett “Truck” Justis, and George Smith Justis.

Her funeral service will be conducted from the graveside in the Liberty Cemetery in Parksley, Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Will Sloan officiating.
