Mr. Bernard Larry Downing Sr., 73, of Township, N.J., received eternal life on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at his residence.
Born in Assawoman, Bernard was the beloved son of the late Lorenzo Downing and Daisy Corbin. Bernard was educated in Accomack County Public Schools. At an early age, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War.
Private funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at the Chapel of Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac, with the Rev. Gary Miller officiating. Interment was in the Jerusalem Baptist Cemetery, Temperanceville.
He leaves his love and fond memories to his wife, Odessa Downing; children, Bernard Downing Jr., Equai Downing, Kyle Downing-Spady, and Shawn Hedgepeth; seven grandchildren; sisters, Betty Downing and Dorothy Harmon; brother-in-law, the Rev. Gary Miller; godson, Bryce Johnson; uncle, James Marshall; dear friend, Cleveland Johnson; and a host of other relatives and special friends.
