Mr. Erik Mezick, 47, of Fruitland, Md., was identified by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel as the driver of a box truck that plunged into the Chesapeake Bay during a northbound crossing around 8:20 a.m. today, Dec. 29.
The truck was owned by Cloverland Green Spring Dairy.
The search for Mezick has been unsuccessful so far and will be suspended at dark and then resume in the morning, if necessary.
Crofton Diving, of Portsmouth, Va., will attempt to recover the truck on Wednesday, Dec. 30, after marine conditions improve.
The accident investigation is being conducted by CBBT police and remains ongoing. Virginia
Beach Fire & Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard are assisting.
