Mrs. Constance “Connie” Salyer Bailey, 73, of Chincoteague Island, passed away on Dec. 6, 2020, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Nassawadox on Jan. 9, 1947, a daughter to the late William Blaine and Leone (Skidmore) Salyer.

She was a member of Union Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star #62 on Chincoteague Island. Connie followed her parents in the family business of owning and operating Salyer Funeral Home, where her kindness and compassion touched the hearts of many during her career. She was also an honorary member of the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company and was a fixture in the ticket booth for many years delighting the hearts of young and old alike just by flashing her big smile to anxious carnival goers.

Connie is survived by her four daughters, Tabbi Walker and her husband, Scotty, of New Church, Cindy Shaffer, of Virginia Beach, Vicky Furness and her husband, Steve, of Parksley, and Mandy Betts and her husband, Ricky, of Chincoteague Island; five grandsons, Jacob Shaffer, of Virginia Beach, Derek Clark, of Parksley, Luke Betts, of Chincoteague Island, Trenton Clark, of Parksley, and Seth Walker, of New Church; granddaughter, Ashley Betts, of Chincoteague Island; brother, Donnie Dunn, of Chincoteague Island; special caregiver, Rhonda Green, of Chincoteague Island; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Brooks Nevitt Bailey; and first husband, Vince Conder.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Salyer Funeral Home Inc., Chincoteague Island.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at 2 p.m., at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, with the Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.

Burial will take place in the John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Temperanceville.
