Mrs. Ellen H. Boyce, 90, of Parksley, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, of natural causes.
Mrs. Boyce was born to Alma Shrieves Howard and Walter Stewart Howard on a farm outside Parksley, on March 17, 1930. She attended Parksley High School until she and her parents moved to Newport News at the beginning of WWII, when her father went to work in the shipyard. She graduated from Warwick High School in 1947 as a secretarial student.
Upon returning to the Shore, she married her first grade love, Alvin “Al” Boyce Jr., on New Year’s Eve 1950. They were married 26 years upon his death in February 1977. She worked as a secretary at Wallops Island Naval Air Station Base; later she worked for A&N Electrical Co-op, where she retired after 32 years in March 1992.
Mrs. Boyce was an original member of the Parksley Railroad Museum, a member of Parksley Baptist Church, and a member of the Republican Women of VA.
She is survived by her children, Ann C. Powell (Matthew), of Fredericksburg, Va., Alvin “AD” Boyce III (Caroline), of Willards, Md., and Pastor Robert “Bob” Boyce (Tammy), of Pocomoke City, Md.; and four grandchildren, Caitlin Powell, Carrie Boyce, Gracie Boyce, and Abby Boyce.
She is predeceased by her husband, Alvin D. Boyce Jr.; daughter, Bonnie Ellen Boyce; grandson, Dusty Boyce; and parents, Walter S. and Alma S. Howard.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, at Parksley Cemetery with her son, Pastor Bob Boyce, officiating.
