Mr. Bruce Northam Bonniwell Sr., 85, of Onley, husband of the late Nancey West Bonniwell, passed away Sept. 7, 2020, at his residence.
Born on Dec. 30, 1934, in Painter, he was the son of the late Fred Boone Bonniwell and the late Ruth Spence Bonniwell.
Bruce served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles. He also worked for the railroad, was a magistrate, and worked for the Accomack County Sheriff’s Department. His favorite job, however, was being a greeter at Walmart. Having a love for people, he met everyone with a warm smile and an inviting conversation. Bruce was a member of Onley United Methodist Church and enjoyed his daily men’s coffee club at Bojangles. He will be missed for his gregarious personality and the stories he loved to tell.
Bruce is survived by his son, Bruce N. Bonniwell Jr., of Onley, and fiancée, Jill Pennoyer; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Other than his parents and his wife, Nancey, Bruce was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Janice P. Bonniwell; and three brothers, Fred Boone Bonniwell Jr., Augustave Roy Bonniwell, and Paul Reade Bonniwell Sr.
Due to COVID-19, there will not be a public memorial service.
Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
