Mrs. Lola Francis Matthews Fluhart, 85, of Parksley, wife of the late William Wesley “Billy” Fluhart, passed away at the home of her daughter in Republic, Mo., on Aug. 1, 2020.

Born Dec. 10, 1934, near Parksley, she was the daughter of the late Upshur Dennis Matthews and the late Nettie Catherine Thornton Matthews. She graduated from Parksley High School in 1953, and worked at the R&G Shirt Factory in Parksley for many years. She was a member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Clam, the church of her childhood, and where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was lovingly famous for asking if you’d had enough to eat, several times with each visit, and she loved her turnip greens, fried flounder, and clam sandwiches from the carnival. She loved having lunch out with her sisters and cousins, high school friends, and coworkers after retirement. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family, and made them all feel special and loved.

Lola is survived by two daughters,  Bonnie Fluhart London (Richard), of Noblesville, Ind., and Martha Fluhart Anderson (Brian), of Republic;  grandchildren, George London (Sara), Tammy London Fries (PJ), Lisa Hinman (Tyler), Tina Kurrus (Matt), James Fluhart (Amy), Billy Joe Fluhart, Suzannah Fluhart Lang (Steven), Amanda Davis (Darell), and Rose Anderson (deceased); 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She is also survived by her two sisters, Betty Matthews (Albert, deceased) and Norma Sue Bloxom (William), and former daughter-in-law, Teresa Reid.

Other than her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her son, William Dennis “Billy” Fluhart (Chrissy and daughter Elsie McMahan); grandson, William Wesley Fluhart II;  and daughter-in-law, Kay Reid.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company with Pastor George Fulk officiating. Interment followed in the Quinby Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas UMC, 25460 Shoremain Drive, Bloxom, VA 23308.

Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
