Ms. Cynthia Eloise Smith, 65, of Newport News, Va., affectionately known as “Cynt,” passed away after a long battle with kidney disease; the Lord saw she was tired and called her home. She departed this life as she lived, quietly, at home on June 3, 2020.

Born in Pungoteague, on May 9, 1955, Cynthia alternated her early education between Virginia and New Jersey. She went to Pungoteague Elementary School and Central High School. She attended the Job Corps in Pennsylvania, completed her GED program, was a certified medical assistant, and recently continued her studies at Thomas Nelson Community College. She accepted the Lord early in her life, being baptized at the age of 14.

Cynthia worked at the Social Security Administration and Eastern Benefits in New Jersey and Perdue Farms in Accomac. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. She was known as the takeout queen, but later in life developed a liking for cooking and would often post her delicious meals on Facebook.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her mother and father, Elizabeth Morris and Coley Thomas; and brothers, Melvin Smith and Terry Heath. She is survived by sisters, Patricia Smith, Kassandra Smith, Lynette Smith, Kim Thomas, Brenda Robinson, and Roslyn Phillips; and brothers, Coley Thomas Jr. and Shawn Thomas.

In 1987, the Lord blessed her with her daughter, Tyniesha Washington, and the two enjoyed a special relationship and a great friendship.

She loved children and was a second mother to her niece, Janyne Collins; great-niece, Kylie Collins; nephews, Tony Collins, Kyle Collins, D’Angelo Collins, Stephon Smith, Alajuwaan Smith, and Al-Hadid Smith; and great-nephew, Terique Collins. She shared a special relationship with Farrah Byrd as her second mother.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family thanks you for your love and support during this difficult time.

“For those who believe in the Lord shall not perish but have life everlasting.”  John 3:15
