Staff Report —

One man died and two others were injured in a crash between a pickup truck and a tractor trailer late Thursday in New Church.
The victim, John B. Shertenlieb III, 20, of Sanford, was a passenger in a GMC pickup truck driven by Ethan Hart of Saxis, according to Virginia State Police spokesperson Sgt. Michelle Anaya.
Hart was driving west on Davis Road, heading towards Route 13, when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Davis Road and the highway.
The pickup truck struck the rear tires of a 2015 Volvo tractor trailer traveling northbound on Route 13, driven by Thomas Pusey of Delmar, Md.
The pickup was pushed onto its side, ejecting Shertenlieb, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were called to the scene at 10:22 p.m., Anaya said.
Hart and Pusey were transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. for treatment of injuries.
It is not yet known if alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash, which remains under investigation.
