Mrs. RuthAnn Baker, 74, beloved wife of Bruce Baker and a resident of Southside Chesconnessex, Onancock, passed away at home with her family by her side Tuesday, May 5, 2020.
Born Jan. 16, 1946, in Brooklyn, Kings, N.Y., RuthAnn was a daughter of the late George Clayton Ulshafer and the late Ruth Anna Bell Ulshafer. She was a former executive secretary of Highland Falls/Fort Montgomery Public School District, and a member of Riverview United Methodist Church.
RuthAnn was involved with many organizations. One of her major interests in recent years was making hand-sewn teddy bears to help grieving families for Riverside Shore Hospice. This hobby affectionately earned her the nickname “The Bear Lady,” having completed well over 200 bears to share with others. Over the years, RuthAnn made stained glass, was a softball coach, Girl Scout leader for 10 years, lay reader and treasurer for Riverview UMC, foster parent for four children, created fancy cakes (for weddings and special events), and was a mother to many of the neighborhood children who needed a place to live or just eat.
RuthAnn touched many lives and formed lifelong friendships, all of whom were like family to her.
In addition to her loving husband, survivors include four children, Jennifer Baker Lupinetti (Steven), of Onancock, and David Baker (Amy), of Onancock, Robert Baker (Erin), of Wurtsboro, N.Y., and Mark Baker (Terri), of New Paltz, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, ReneeAnn Baker, of Virginia Beach, Va., Samantha and Klarissa Lupinetti, of Onancock, Caesar and Alexander Baker, of New Paltz, and Phoebe and Isaiah Baker, of Wurtsboro; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Amber Baker; a niece, Debbie Hook, of Warwick, N.Y.; and two nephews, Robert Ulshafer, of Fairlawn, N.J., and George Ulshafer, of Oakland, N.J. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert Ulshafer.
A service to celebrate her life will be planned in the future.
