Chincoteague met a familiar opponent in the first round of the basketball playoffs Monday night, and just as it was in volleyball season, Rappahannock cut the Ponies season short. The Raiders were a most inhospitable foe, soundly dispatching the Ponies 62-30. In November, during the volleyball playoffs it was Rappahannock making the long journey to the island, and Monday night Chincoteague travelled a great distance attempting to extend their season, but it was not to be. Alanna Hall, playing her final game as a Pony, finished with 8 points and four steals. Emma Jackson led Chincoteague with 9 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and five blocks, another all-around stellar effort. Lindsay O’Shea chipped in 6 points. Looking forward, Chincoteague will return a strong core group of athletes. The future looks bright with not only Jackson and O’Shea coming back, but also Caroline Shelley and a number of up-and-coming players from the depth chart and JV squad.
