Mr. Gary Allen Baxter, 71, husband of Victoria Kellam Baxter and a resident of Melfa, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, at VCU Medical Center in Richmond. A native of Amityville, N.Y., he was the son of the late George C. Baxter Sr. and the late Josephine Smith Baxter. He was a retired rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Delmarva Decoy Collectors Association.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Baxter Swanson and her husband, Michael, of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, George C. Baxter Jr. and his wife, Pat, of West Islip, N.Y., and Stephen Baxter and his wife, Valerie, of Amityville, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Janice Baxter, of Amityville, N.Y., and Anne Kellam, of Cheriton, Va.; a brother-in-law, P.C. Kellam and his wife, Mickey, of Silver Beach, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Delmarva Decoy Collectors Association, c/o Decoy Magazine, Attn. Joe Engers, P.O. Box 787, Lewes, DE 19958.
