Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Alene Thomas Mason, 76, of Bloxom, wife of the late John Winston Mason, passed away Feb. 4, 2020, at Heritage Hall in Nassawadox.
Born Dec. 17, 1943, in Saxis, she was the daughter of the late Dallas Thomas Sr. and Clara Painter Thomas. Mrs. Mason was a seamstress for Parksley Apparel.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Ann Mason Taylor, of Bloxom; a stepdaughter, Doris Ann Hurley (John), of Delmar, Md.; four grandchildren, Shane Taylor, Payton Taylor, John Hurley Jr. and Crystal Hurley; two sisters, June Covington and Shirley White; a brother, Dallas “Butch” Thomas; and four great-grandchildren, Paige, Heaven, Kira and LJ.
Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha Mason and Carolyn Gillespie, and five brothers, Eugene Thomas, Donald Thomas Sr., Allen Thomas and two baby brothers.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley with the Rev. Mark Layne officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery in Parksley.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company, 15312 Bayside Dr., Bloxom, VA 23308.
