Martin Slaughter Stringfellow III

Mr. Martin Slaughter Stringfellow III  peacefully passed away Jan. 29, 2020, at his home in Chandler, Ariz., with his loving daughter, Patty, at his side.

Mr. Stringfellow was born July 19, 1933. He went to Cape Charles Elementary School and graduated from Chincoteague High School. He attended St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., and received his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He went to work for Emerson Electric in St. Louis after graduating and cycled back and forth for years between Emerson and McDonald Douglas Aircraft Corp. He went to Boston and worked for MACOM Corp, then transferred to Motorola in Phoenix, Ariz., where he retired. His field of specialization was microwave radiation.

He married Mary Ellen Murphy from Detroit, Mich..

Mr. Stringfellow returned home to Cape Charles after retirement and spent several years as an active member and volunteer at the Cape Charles Historical Society. He was a creative and talented engineer and artist who is well known for his Chesapeake Bay models of steamers, ferry boats and railroad tugs which are displayed in the Cape Charles Virginia Historical Society Museum.

He is survived by a brother, Frank Stringfellow, of Maryland; daughters, Patty Griese, Kathy Hetrick, and Margie Stringfellow, all of the Phoenix, Ariz. area; and grandsons, Danny Kunz and Kyle Stringfellow. He was predeceased by his sister, Frances Bailey, of Cheriton.
