The Arcadia Firebirds traveled to Onley last week, Jan. 9, to face off against the Lady Warriors. It’s the second time this season the two teams have met and it was Nandua that came out on top again. The Warriors edged the Firebirds back in December in Oak Hall by the narrow margin of one point. This time, the Warriors entered their own gym with a building confidence and were backed by some home court energy. They reduced their fouls and limited their turnovers, which led to a career-high 10 points for Sarah Taylor. Tynaija Kelley, Teyanna Tazewell, Brianna Tazewell, and Mackenzie Vestal contributed to their team’s victory, recording 6 points each.

Arcadia’s Bella Williams led all scores with 12 points as she controlled the ball and ran the point position for the Firebirds.

The Lady Warriors will be pitted against the district leader Northampton Jan. 17. They’ll be working on defensive rebounding and eliminating second opportunities this week in practice.

“They are bigger than we are, and we need to be tougher and more aggressive under the basket” said coach Williams of tonight’s 7 p.m. tipoff against the Jackets.
