Arcadia stretched its winning streak to three games with a 46-0 defeat on the road in Williamsburg last Friday against Bruton. The defense has surrendered only 19 points over that span, and the victory against the Panthers was the Firebirds’ second shutout of the season. The defense has been rock solid all season and has only been getting stronger with each passing game.

“Jaden and Kamron did a tremendous job at the ends,” said assistant coach Dan Macca.

The Firebirds again employed balance on offense, securing touchdowns from Lethon Williams, Tiair Bibbins, William Scarborough, Jaden Hope, and Airey Finney. They have managed their games well with Collin Marshall under center and Williams seems to be thriving in his new role on offense. Head coach Alan Hall sees a more relaxed Williams finding his stride in different assignments.

“He wasn’t himself, now he has no worry,” said Hall. “He wasn’t touched on some of his long runs against Bruton.”

This week they return home to face a strong Milford Mill Academy team, one traveling with 44 players and a wealth of collegiate level prospects. The Firebirds face an uphill battle, but with playoff hopes and jockeying at stake they face no margin for error.

Deciphering film and applying schemes to practice will be crucial to meet the challenge the Millers present.

“They are gonna spread us out; it’s about our confidence to perform,” said Macca. “A lot of times it’s about the size in numbers of team and they have 44 players. We’re faster, they’re bigger, we’ll see what happens.”

Milford Mill will enter the game with a truly electrifying quarterback, Rishon Holmes, under center. Hall is particularly concerned with the skill set Holmes possesses.

“The kid makes people miss standing still,” said Hall.

As the second half of the season is now upon the Firebirds, every game is of critical importance moving and tonight’s matchup at home promises to be an entertaining game.
