Northampton girls cross country teams claimed a first place finish on the road when they traveled to Emporia, Va. The Greensville invitational was held Sept. 11 and hosted nine teams from different divisions. The Jackets were led by Daniela Gonzalez who claimed her third win of the season when she crossed line at 23 minutes. Wendi Martinez, Olivia Peart, Leslie Estrada Meza, and Keisi Espinobarros Bartolo were the other top runners in the event for the Jackets.

The Northampton boys also had a good showing placing third, with Eddie Maldonado Lopez leading the way with a time of 20:43. “Both squads continue to improve and coach Driscole and I are really proud of them” head coach Rich Wilfong remarked.

The teams’ results were duplicates of an event held the week prior at the Franklin invitational. The Jackets will be at home Oct. 7 for a 4:30 p.m. meet that will host Arcadia, Nandua, Chincoteague, and Southampton.
