Born Feb. 28, 1935, he was the son of the late Forrest L. Fitzgerald and Catherine Milliner Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald lived in Portsmouth, Va., in his youth, before moving to the Eastern Shore. After graduating from East Carolina University, he had a 22-year teaching career with Accomack County Public Schools and served his state in the Virginia National Guard.
Survivors include four cousins, James Milliner, George Davis and his wife, Deborah, Robert Davis, and Debbie Hardstock.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, William L. Fitzgerald Jr.
Funeral services were conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, in Onancock, Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019.
