The Virginia Chorale will perform at Hungars Episcopal Church Sunday, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m. The Commonwealth’s premier professional chamber chorus, now in its 36th season, will present “Music of the Chapel Royal.”

Anglophiles will delight in this concert of 16th and 17th century motets and madrigals written by composers of the Chapel Royal, including William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, and Henry Purcell. Selections are paired with works by Edward Elgar, William Henry Harris, Arthur Sullivan, and Judith Weir, composers associated with the British monarchy.

As a fully professional performing and educating ensemble, the Virginia Chorale has performed hundreds of concerts throughout Hampton Roads, engaged hundreds of singers, recorded three compact discs, appeared on local and national radio broadcasts, launched a pre-professional education program for young singers, and performed internationally.

Artistic director Charles Woodward is known in Hampton Roads as a pianist and choral conductor. He is the music director of Ohef Sholom Temple and of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Norfolk.

The concert is part of the 2019 series presented by the Music Ministry of Hungars Church.  Upcoming events include the fifth annual Messiah Sing-Along on Sunday, Dec. 6, and the Broadwater Academy annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, Dec. 12. All performances are free of charge, with a free-will offering received. Meet-the-artists receptions in the Parish Hall follow the Virginia Chorale and Messiah presentations. Hungars Episcopal Church is located at 10107 Bayside Road, Machipongo.
