After a tough loss at home, the Nandua Warriors get their first win of the season on the road. After the lost to Rappahannock, the Warriors went straight to work during practice, placing an emphasis on the team’s deep passing game. The Warriors knew that it was Washington High School’s first game and knew conditioning would be an issue. With that knowledge, they wanted to get things going quick on offense with a fast pace that would set the tone of the game.

“They say you improve the most as a football team between week one and week two and I feel like we did that,” said head coach Rotkowski, who saw significant improvements on both sides of the ball during the game.

The Warrior’s offensive line dominated early on, controlling the line of scrimmage, which allowed for more passing time. With more time in the pocket and better routes from the receivers, the Nandua passing game was much more polished compared to opening week. Senior Joe Teasley ended the game with two passing touchdowns on offense, one of them a 63-yard TD pass to Tyler Greene on third down. The other was a 44-yard touchdown to Zykeese Davis, who also had a 6-yard rushing touchdown.

On defense the Warriors came out with a physicality that forced several turnovers including a 44-yard pick six by Joe Teasley. The stifling defense was very effective in the passing game as they gang tackled and flocked to the ball allowing only three completed passes the entire game.

“I’m happy with the effort and physicality we played with,” said Rotkowski of the Nandua defense that let only one score on the board.

This week during practice the Warriors set their sights on their first district game on the road against Arcadia.

“We still have a long way to go, we’re just trying to get better everyday” said Rotkowski who will be looking to refine his team’s game during practice with a focus on reducing penalties.
