Jackets dropped their home opener in four sets to the Franklin Broncos (19-25, 20-25, 25-23, 7-25). The Jackets lost only one senior last season and are led by alldistrict Yeats James and Jada Giddens.
The Jackets move to 1-1 on the season and will continue to adjust to the faster pace play with the team having three freshman on the varsity roster.
The Jackets made several forced errors as they faced a very tall Franklin front line that dominated the net. “We played tough in the very close third set and pulled that one off with grit and determination,” said head coach Cathryn Doughty.
Northampton will be working on receiving serves and deflected balls off the block in practice this week before traveling to Northumberland, Va., Sept. 13.
