Mrs. Mary Rose Lazenby, 80, wife of the late William Otis “Bill” Lazenby and a resident of Atlantic, passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, with her loving family at her side. Born Dec. 16, 1938, in Keller, she was a daughter of the late George D. Harmon and Margaret Walker Harmon.

Mrs. Lazenby graduated from Onancock High School and worked as a kindergarten teacher’s aide at Kegotank Elementary School for 33 years. During her husband’s career with NASA, she served as the president of moral activities on the base. She enjoyed sewing and was rarely found without a book in hand. Mrs. Lazenby lived for her children, and then for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always ensuring her home was a safe and happy place for all to gather. Defined by her gentle soul, caring heart, and devotion to her family, she delighted in filling the lives of those around her with love.

She is survived by three children, William Otis “Chuck” Lazenby Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Atlantic, Mae-Lynn Lazenby, of Greenbackville, and Terry Walker Lazenby, of Atlantic; sister, Margaret Ann Colburn, of Exmore; brothers, James “Butch” Harmon and wife, Mary Paul, and Ronnie Harmon and wife, Claudia, all of Melfa; eight grandchildren, Dameion Lazenby and wife, Ellen, Andrea Lazenby, Ross Lazenby and wife, Niki, Katie Broadwater and husband, Jason, Tommy Wall and wife, Angel, Ashlee, Lindsay Lang and husband, Jason, and Mason George and girlfriend, Taylor; grandson-in-law, Walter Buchanan; 14 great-grandchildren, Éowyn, Breanna, Evin, Devan, Addie, Bryson, Carmen, John, Austin, Jaxon, Riley, Liam, Xen, and Darcy; and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy-Jo Revell; sisters, Nancy Sawyer and Donna Bralley; and brother, George “Walker” Harmon.

A service to celebrate Mrs. Lazenby’s life was held at Downings United Methodist Church Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019.
