Mrs. Agnes Sterling Gillespie, of Mappsville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley. She was 101 years young.

Mrs. Gillespie was the devoted wife of Harry William Gillespie Jr. and one of seven children born to John Major Sterling and Mattie Melson Sterling, all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her nieces, Linda Stevens, of Edgewood, Md., and Lou Ann Crowson and husband, Charles, and their son, Doug Crowson, of Newport News, Va.

Mr. and Mrs. Gillespie were inseparable throughout their marriage. Always dressed to impress and very social, they enjoyed going out on the town, especially Mrs. Gillespie, who loved to dance. The kindest of souls, Mrs. Gillespie was adored by all, both human and four legged, often taking in stray cats and dogs. When she wasn’t socializing, dancing or caring for others, you’d find her relaxing while soaking up a little sun.

Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, with the Rev. John Cullop officiating. Private interment was held in the Parksley Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Gillespie’s memory may be made to the S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 164, Onley, VA 23418.

Memory tributes may be shared with the family at www.williamsfuneralhomes.com.
