Mr. John Oliver Taylor, 80, of Richmond, and previously of Parksley, husband of the late Donna Rae Beasley Taylor, passed away Aug. 2, 2019, in Richmond.

Born Sept. 7, 1938, in Parksley, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Taylor and Mabel Lewis Taylor. Mr. Taylor was in the National Guard and attended the Newport News Apprentice School. After retiring from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he resided in Melfa with his wife, Donna. He loved NASCAR racing, antique car shows, and history. Most of all he loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Jones, of Mechanicsville, Va.; two grandchildren, Hugh and Haley; a brother, Robert Franklin Taylor, of Parksley; and numerous friends.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. from the Parksley Cemetery, where he will be put to rest beside his wife, Donna Rae Beasley Taylor, with the Rev. John Cullop officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. -7:30 p.m. at the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
