Mrs. Joyce Carpenter Burns, 84, wife of the late Rev. Ottis P. Burns and a resident of Parksley, formerly of Birdsnest, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at Shore Health and Rehab Center in Parksley. A native of Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Anson R. Carpenter and the late Helen Barron Carpenter McCracken. Mrs. Burns was a retired registered nurse.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha L. Burns, of Parksley; sister, Maggie Gatwood, of California; brother, Herb Carpenter, of Michigan; two granddaughters, Catherine A. Bell and Stacee L. Bell, both of Machipongo; two grandsons, Tye W. Burns (Brittany), of Nassawadox, and Norman C. Bell III (Trish), of Cape Charles; son-in-law, Norman C. Bell Jr. of Eastville; daughter-in-law, Karen Y. Foley (Jack), of Eastville; and three great-grandchildren, Masen C. Bell and Marissa P. Bell, of Cape Charles, and Sutherlyn Y. Burns, of Nassawadox. In addition to her parents and loving husband of 52 years, she was predeceased by her son, William C.”Tip” Burns; daughter, Debra C. Bell; son-in-law, Frank M. Aita; brother, Dan Carpenter; and sister, Arlene Moses.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Doughty Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Conrow and the Rev. Rob Kelly officiating. Interment will be private in Eastville Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Riverside Shore Hospice, P. O. Box 615, Onley, VA 23418.
