Mrs. Norma Annis Short, 84, of Guilford, passed away peacefully at her home June 19, 2019.

Born July 5, 1934, she was the youngest of seven children born to the late Maude Mae and Major Harrison Annis.

Mrs. Short graduated from Bloxom High School in 1952. She worked at both Holly Farms and Perdue and eventually retired from Accomack County Nursing Home, where she worked as a CNA for many years. She lived in Guilford her entire life and was a member of Independent Pilgrim Church in Parksley.

Mrs. Short was preceded in death by her husband, Roy James Short Jr.; her youngest daughter, Kathy Short Baylis; and her six siblings, Gladys Taylor, Frank Annis, Stanley Annis, Milton Annis, Clifford Annis and Hallie Annis.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Bowman and her husband, Glenn, of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Amy Ratzlaff and her significant other, Max Marshall Jr., Jason Kanipe and wife, Ashley, Holly Chapman and husband, Dan, Tyler Bowman and wife, Jenny, and Anna Miller and husband, Billy; and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia Ratzlaff, Garrett and Sydney Kanipe, Carter and Wyatt Chapman, and Ryn Grey and Griffin Miller. Mrs. Short is also survived by a son-in-law, Mark Baylis, of Guilford, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Annis, of Pine City, N.Y., as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital and Riverside Shore Hospice for their kindness, compassion and support.

Funeral services will be held at Thornton Funeral Home, in Parksley, Friday, June 28, 2019, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Asbury officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
