Mr. Larry Edwin Hawthorne, 82, resident of Chancetown, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock. Born April 16, 1937, in Tulare, Calif., he was the son of the late Paul E. Hawthorne and the late Zelma Bradley Hawthorne.
Raised in the family farming business, Mr. Hawthorne learned many skills from a young age and loved working with his hands. Over the years, he designed and built boats, trailers, furniture, and always welcomed a new project. Mr. Hawthorne served his country as a radioman in the U.S. Navy and later began his career with Perdue Farms. His final transfer with Perdue relocated him to the Eastern Shore, where he retired as a manager in the shipping department. Mr. Hawthorne’s love for fishing made the Shore a perfect place to enjoy retirement, often spending his days casting a line on the seaside or perfecting his latest building project.
Survivors include his sister, Judy Blackburn and husband, Jim, of Cheyenne, Wyo., and their children, Karrie Galbraith and Kevin Jones; daughter, Eugenia Hawthorne; grandchildren, Ryan and Jordan; and his neighbor and best friend of 80 years, Dave Austin.
To honor Mr. Hawthorne’s wishes, no public service will be held.
