Mrs. Mary Miller Bradford Bowen Harlow died Feb. 16, 2019, at her home in Nassawadox. She was born on June 17, 1944, in Nassawadox. She was the daughter of the late James Roger and Margaret Ellen Townsend Bradford, of Cape Charles. Her grandparents were John Edwin and Emma Leah Adams Bradford and Eslie Kellam and Florence Franklin Townsend, of the Eastern Shore. She is survived by her husband, John J. Harlow. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harry Lee Bowen Sr., and her eldest brother, James R. Bradford. Survivors include her children, Leah B. Forst (Donald), Harry Lee “Hank” Bowen Jr. (Carol), and Lynn Bowen, as well as Johnny Harlow, Theresa H. Goller (Cliff), and Patrick Harlow (Theresa). Her grandchildren are Charlie Forst, Jacob Bowen, Adam Bowen, Ben Gomez, Isaac Gomez, Brenna Gomez, and Cody Goller. Surviving also are her siblings, Ellen B. McGrath (Tom), John Bradford; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bradford; as well as many loved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Harlow is also survived by her beloved cat, Missy.
Mrs. Harlow was a proud graduate of Cape Charles High School and a lifelong Washington Redskins fan. She was the first woman elected to the Cape Charles Town Council and was appointed to the Cape Charles Board of Zoning Appeals. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after having served more than 27 years and as a greeter at the Onley Walmart where you save money and live better. She retired from polishing brass and became the first archivist for St. Charles Church.
Mrs. Harlow’s family would like to thank the many friends, neighbors, and the staff of Intrepid Hospice who helped care for her these past several months.
Mrs. Harlow was baptized at St. Charles Church, in Cape Charles, and a funeral Mass was held there Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, with Father J. Michael Breslin officiating.
