Mr. Lewis Henry White, 86, lifelong resident of Chincoteague Island, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley.

Born Dec. 5, 1932, on Chincoteague, he was a son of the late Harvey White and Lillie Thornton White. Mr. White is survived by his daughter, Barbara F. Wilgus, of Windsor, Va.; two brothers, George White and wife, Sandra, of Atlantic, and Ernest L. White and wife, Connie, of Chincoteague; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Willis White; and son-in-law, Grover E. Wilgus Jr.

Mr. White lived a modest lifestyle and preferred being under the radar. For most of his life he worked as a waterman except for a few years as a police officer with the town of Chincoteague, and, from time to time, he worked as a duck hunting guide. He was a member of the Accomack Masonic Lodge No. 243, A.F. & A.M., American Legion Post # 159, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle – a pleasure he continued until just recently.

Funeral services were conducted from the graveside at the John W. Taylor Cemetery on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, with the Rev. Maury Enright officiating.
