Mrs. Dorothy Lee “Dot” Spurley, 83, wife of the late Avery Spurley and a resident of Onancock, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 14, 1935, in Belle Haven, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Fletcher Beasley and Molly Mapp Beasley.

For decades, Mrs. Spurley worked as a nurse’s assistant and was well known for her caring nature and compassionate heart, both professionally and personally. She was a devoted member of Onley United Methodist Church and rarely missed an opportunity to play bingo. There was never a time you’d see Mrs. Spurley out and about that she wasn’t dressed to impress, and you were always greeted with a warm smile and a hug. Nothing was more important to Mrs. Spurley than her family, and there was no place she’d rather be than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Mark Chandler and his wife, Janet, of Columbus, Miss.; Basil Chandler and wife, Kelli, of San Antonio, Texas; brother, John Beasley; grandchildren, Michelle Crawford, April Foster, Ashley Conley, Beth and Autumn Chandler, and Ronnie Williams and wife, Crystal; great-grandchildren, Dillion, Victoria, and Haley Kyzar, Evyn Crawford, Lilly and Logan Foster, and Avery, Marleigh, and Gavin Williams; special friends, Ada Linton and Jeanie Milke; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Rita Short; sister, Laura May Beasley; and brother, George Beasley.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Charles W. Parks III officiating.
