Mrs. Shirlee Hicks Turlington, 83, wife of B. Eugene Turlington Sr. and a resident of Chancetown, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at her residence. Formerly of Onancock, she was the daughter of the late Guy S. Hicks and the late Bertha Johnson Hicks. She was a devoted wife, mother, and woman of strong faith.
In addition to her loving husband of 64 years, she is survived by four children, B. Eugene “Chip” Turlington and Mary, of Chancetown, Pamela T. Widgeon and Paul, of Belle Haven, Kandice Bruno and Eric, of Exmore, and Peter Turlington and Catherine, of Onancock; a sister, Betty Richardson and Ivan, of Snow Hill, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirlee and Eugene were high school sweethearts and founded Turlington Farm’s Incorporated in the 50’s. They loved the farm life in Chancetown and family activities. She enjoyed nurturing and teaching children and will be fondly remembered by those who attended Miss Shirlee’s Mini School and Camp Speck. Over the years, she opened her heart and her home to anyone who needed love, guidance, a cooking lesson or help finding their way in life through her faith in God’s plan.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Melfa United Methodist Church with the Rev. Glenda Turlington officiating. Private interment will be held in the Turlington Home Place Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Melfa United Methodist Church, 19444 Main Street, Melfa, Virginia 23410.
