Tangier Man Sentenced For Drug Crimes

A Tangier Island man was sentenced Monday in Northampton Circuit Court to five years in prison for a drug crime.
All but four months was suspended for William Brent Laird, 37, of Banny’s Lane, for possession with intent to distribute Subutex. He was put on indefinite probation and his driver’s license will be suspended for six months upon release. The crime occurred Aug. 10, 2016.
A charge of grand larceny of an outboard motor was dismissed against Sharon Yvonne Royster, 50, of Seaside Road in Cape Charles. Royster was indicted in May for the March 15 offense.
Green Alfred Bellamy, 40, of Bayside Road in Nassawadox, was sentenced to six months in jail, with five months suspended, for driving after being declared an habitual offender. He will be allowed to serve his time on weekends. The incident occurred July 31, 2017.
Hakeem Lamarr Johnson, 23, of Windsor Court in Newport News, Va., pleaded guilty to possession with in-tent to distribute marijuana in connection with a Nov. 3, 2017, offense. Sentencing was set for April 8.
Derick Clay Klein, of Cape Charles, was given a three-year suspended sentenced for stealing a firearm. He pleaded not guilty in June to the Dec. 5, 2017, charge. Indefinite probation was ordered.
Robert Lee Giddens, of Exmore, will not be prosecuted for a count of unlawful injury of a law enforcement officer on Feb. 24. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of reckless driving and was fined $380. He also admitted guilt to misdemeanor charges of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
