Mr. George Wallace Leadbitter, 92, husband of Rita O. Leadbitter and a resident of Onancock, formerly of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, at Hermitage on the Eastern Shore in Onancock. A native of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he was the son of the late George Parker Leadbitter and the late Isobel Kimlin Leadbitter. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the 499th Quartermaster Car Company during WWII in Italy. He was employed at IBM and retired after 41 years of service. He served as a volunteer fireman/ fire inspector with the New Hamburg Fire Department. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Lafayette Post #37.

In addition to his loving wife of 66 years, he is survived by two daughters, Betsy Fabbri and her husband, Edward, of Litchfield, Conn., and Joan Doughty and her husband, Scott, of Onley; and three grandchildren, Andy Fabbri, Alec Fabbri, and Anna Doughty.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at The Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Community Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Claire Lostgren officiating. Family will join friends at Delehanty Funeral Home Monday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lafayette American Legion Post #37, P.O. Box 670, Poughkeepsie, NY 12602.
