Mrs. Marjory Pilsbury Haines

Mrs. Marjory Pilsbury Haines, 94, passed away Oct. 18, 2018, in Crisfield, Md. where she had been a resident at Chesapeake Cove and Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home for nearly four years. There she enjoyed water views of the Chesapeake Bay along with the kindness and care she received as a resident and patient.

Born a twin on July 31, 1924, and raised in Staffordshire, Wolverhampton,En – gland, where her parents owned and operated a fish ’n’ chips shop, Mrs. Haines learned hospitality and service traits very early and made it her mission to help and give generously to others throughout her life. She attended schooling in England for restaurant and hospitality business and later served in the Women’s Land Army in England during World War II.

Mrs. Haines arrived in the United States with husband, Thomas Charles Haines Sr., and young daughter, Denise, around 1948 and settled in Wilmington, Del. She and her twin sister continued their work in the restaurant business, waitressing for many years at the Hotel DuPont. She later moved to Hollywood Beach, Md., and was employed at the local VFW. Upon retirement she and her husband followed family to Dublin and Onley, Kernersville, N.C., and back to the Eastern Shore.

Mrs. Haines was a talented cook, and baking was her specialty. Her kindness and generosity became her legacy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Haines Sr.; her daughter, Denise Haines Clemson; her sister, Joan Mills; and her brother, George Pilsbury.

Mrs. Haines is survived by her loving and devoted son, Thomas C. Haines Jr. (wife, Dr. Maribeth Haines), of Melfa; grandchildren, Barbie Lytton (husband, Todd) and Christyne Fayard, both of Palmyra, David Clemson (wife, Amy), of Burke, Sarah Hoffman (husband, Matthew), of Onancock, and Andrew Haines, of Wilmington, N.C.; 7 great-grandchildren; nephews, Stephen Carroll, of Newcastle, Del., and Christopher Pilsbury (wife, Carol), of Hockessin, Del.; and cousin Shirley Rowley (husband, John), of West Midland, England.

A private memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
